Cat Care Information

Basic Information

  • Chirpy is at Sue’s house, you will have Phil, Remi and Maeby.
  • Please ensure that they all have access to water, both upstairs and downstairs.
  • We don’t separate the cats anymore. Phil, Maeby and Remi can be out with essentially full access. Note:

-We do keep the spare bedroom door closed, but Maeby and Phil can be closed in there for short periods.

-Suggest keep main bedroom door closed during the day/when you are away, as Remi if stressed may mark/pee on the bed (here or elsewhere).

  • IF Remi becomes a continuous problem, he can always be kept downstairs like how you did it last time, just ensure he has water and food (dry and wet) and is allowed upstairs as able.

Feeding the cats: Basically 3 cans total per day for all the cats (inside and out), plus dry food.

Inside cats:

  • Wet food:

-Mixture:

1 can of Friskies + ~1/4 cup water + 1 small scoop of white powder (smidgen scoop; gabapentin).

-The water is just to make the food softer/slightly soupy; add more water later in the day if it looks dry.

-Feed:

-1 can in the morning (any time before 11 am)

-1 can in the evening (any time after 4 pm and before midnight)

-FYI – they don’t always eat it all. What they don’t eat can be given to the ferals (see below).

-Please change their food bowls every couple of days or so.

  • Dry Food:

-check the dry food dish upstairs, I usually fill up the dry food bowl when they get the wet food.

-Automatic dry feeder at bottom of the stairs – just make sure it is not empty.

-We leave the one basement light on and the storage room light on all the time.

-There will be extra dry food near the feeders.

Outside/Feral cats:

  • Wet food:

– 1 can of wet food, any time after 4 pm; you don’t have to add anything to their canned food, just chop it up a bit with a spoon or fork.

-if there is uneaten food from the inside cats, you can add it to the ferals food, but don’t mix the feral and inside dirty cat dishes up…I don’t want the inside cats to get any diseases from the ferals

  • Dry Food:

-keep the dry food dish topped up. There is dry food in the garage by the big garage door.

Treats

  • Remi (and Chirp) are the only one that should have treats…the others puke when they have temptations/treats.
  • You can put some of the regular dry food into the Kongs (kitchen cupboard) if you are going out for a bit or if they need distracting.
  • The cats love to be brushed on the Ottoman, if you get a chance, try to do this at least once a day if you are around as I think it helps them relax.

Water

There is a water fountain in the kitchen, and a dish in the basement near the hot water tank.

The fountain can be filled by pressing the On/Off button until the unit stops running.  Then lift the white pump up, and pour water into the reservoir.  Then replace the pump (with cord coming out the back) and press the On/Off button 1 time until the icon with single water drop lights up.  The pump will run when it senses motion from the cats (or anyone walking in the kitchen).

Please change out the water in the dishes at least every couple of days and give them a quick wash every now and then.  (Remi in particular likes fresh water, especially first thing in the morning.)

You can also watch videos of how to fill and clean the unit:

Litter boxes

  • Automatic Litter Box in Storage Room.  The complete manual is included at the end of this manual.  You should not have to do anything with this box. Most commonly, errors are caused by the water sensor being dirty.  To clean, see Page 16, Section B of the CatGenie Manual at the back of this book.  The last page of the manual has a troubleshooting phone number you can call if needed.
  • Litter Boxes: try to scoop every day (especially the upstairs box), or at least every second day if possible. Located:
  • -Basement
  • -Basement Storage Room
  • -Colleen’s Office
  • Top up litter boxes with fresh litter if the level gets low after scooping.
